Green electricity from Bio Gas - Clarke Energy

Mechanical Biological Treatment is a generic term for a very wide range of technologies that are currently available for the recovery and treatment of the biodegradable fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).
Landfill Gas is one of the largest sources of methane emissions to the atmosphere which, if released, is a potent greenhouse gas with a global-warming potential 21 times greater than that of carbon dioxide. Uncontrolled venting of landfill gas prevents rapid, scheduled recultivation of a landfill site. 
Further, to avoid offensive smells, smouldering fires or the migration of methane to surrounding property whereby it increases the danger of creating a potentially explosive atmosphere; the gas must be continuously extracted under controlled conditions.
With more than 25 years experience in the combustion of landfill gas and currently more than 1,200 MW delivered throughout the world, the Jenbacher product team offers an unparalleled breadth of expertise, references and solution variants.
Around the world Jenbacher plants generate about 9.5 million MW-hours of electricity a year - enough to supply over 2.5 million EU homes. Additionally, by preventing the Landfill Gas emitting directly into the atmosphere and replacing the use of fossil fuels by generating power, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by about 40 million metric tons per year.
The production of ‘green' electricity can be undertaken when certain gases are utilised to run a Jenbacher gas engine. Suitable fuels range from landfill gas, mines gas, sewage gas, coke gas and special gases ( Normally waste gases from industrial or gasification processes).
Mechanical biological treatment with wet anaerobic digestion is a state-of-the art, environmentally friendly way to divert biodegradable waste from landfill, as called for by the government waste directives, providing combined heat and power (CHP) and refuse derived fuel.
In contrast with conventional composting, the HAASE MBT +wAD process releases clean renewable energy out of the biodegradable waste referred to as biogas. A CHP Jenbacher gas engine plant then converts the biogas to electricity and heat which can power not only the fermentation process but the entire facility with surplus green electricity being exported to the grid.
Large treatment capacity, low land use, exceptionally low emissions, competitive in capital and operational costs, powered by self generated renewable green energy with a surplus available for export - these are the benefits of HAASE MBT+wAD waste treatment.
